Mission Accomplished – Lucille’s Birthplace Located

You might not understand why I was so intent on finding the location where Lucille (BB King’s Gibson hollow body guitar). I really enjoy BB’s music and with he was still with us putting out those great tunes. One of his oldest tunes is called “Lucille” and explains how his guitars became know as Lucille. I found that a great story. Music should tell a story not scream at the listener. This story is told pretty succinctly on one side of this historical marker. I found it special that my friends joined me in this quest, just because I asked them to. If you don’t believe this took some effort just search for Twist, Arkansas. That’s where this plaque is located. Thank you Mason and Red. I appreciate what you guys do for me.

You can see the picture of downtown Twist below. There was no people other than us in the area. I am getting proficient at taking pictures of my fingers.

There was not much excitement so it was time for us to be headed for our home for the night – Vicksburg, Mississippi.

Dinner was at Wendy’s. Not much to say but we were kind of in a hurry. We managed to roll into Vicksburg on Highway 61 – The Blues Highway, We did pass thru Clarksdale, location of the Crossroads where Robert Johnson sold his sole to the devil so he could become a great musician. Red mentioned that the story sounds a lot like “The Devil Went Down to Georgia” – a good observation. While passing through Clarksdale, we met the Preacher (that’s what he said his name was). He was wearing a Marine hat and we all thanked him for his service. He is having a hard time now and has some serious health issues going on. He took time out of his life to tell us his story. I’m pretty sure the story telling would still be ongoing if we hadn’t explained that we need to move on.

The preacher shown here telling us his life’s story while in Clarksdale, Mississippi.

The rest of the day was spent finishing up the 315 miles to Vicksburg. As we rolled into town, there was a police roadblock-ish. We were stopped and the officers took one look at us, decided we were pretty harmless, and waved us on. I did manage to score a crane animal at the Mexican restaurant next door to the hotel. My typical method of disposing of these treasures is to award it to the first young child that I saw. I had to improvise this time and this extremely valuable leopard ? or cat ? or ???? was awarded to the desk clerk Paige at our hotel.

It might be time for a haircut – extreme case of helmet head.

Thanks for following along on Henry’s Ramblings. Lucille’s birthplace has been found.
