A Visit with the Creator of Lucille -Riley B. King

The last few days I’ve had some fun writing about a special guitar – Lucille. There is a song by B.B, King that tells the story of this instrument. Do a search for Lucille by B. B. King. He was a great musician, a real humanitarian, and an all around nice guy. He was and is The King of the Blues. We stopped today in a small town – Indianola, Mississippi where a museum has been built in his honor. He started life as the son of a sharecropper and ended life as a world recognized icon with 40 albums to his name.

Guests are greeted at the museum by a replica of Lucille. Yesterday’s blog has a short bit of information describing how Lucille came to be.

I was lucky enough to see him in concert and still can’t get enough of his music. His personality comes through in his music and every thing else he accomplished during his life.

I do understand why we don’t see or hear much from Lucille these days. She is locked away behind a glass wall in with the contents of BB’s private office. Lucille really needs to come out and play but I’m not sure anyone could make her sing like B.B. used to. I will try hard to make this the last mention of Lucille during the current adventure.

Lucille is locked away.

The total route for today was a much gentler 200 mile cruise from Vicksburg to Jackson, Mississippi. We were blessed again with bright sunshine and temperatures that reached 90 degrees this afternoon. The group is doing ok but now I have to be aware of the push to get home. We’re still about 800 miles from the Rambling Ranch. The urge to set the cruise control and point the front wheel home will get stronger every day. It happens to me on every trip. Even the ones I’m thoroughly enjoying and don’t want to see end.

Thank you B. B. King (official name Riley B. King), his famous guitar, the best traveling partners a guy could ask for, and each of you for reading along.
