Today was supposed to be a short ride from Pampa, TX to Tucumcari, NM. Well, the mileage was only about 200 miles or so. The problem was there was an issue with the trike. It isn’t a big deal. I’m pretty sure it’s the engine temperature sensor but it is still worrisome when the red temperature light on the dash is on all the time which turns on the check engine light. As a result of fussing with this all day, I didn’t take a lot of pictures.

If I had taken pictures, I’m pretty sure they would have melted. We spent most of the day coming across the Texas panhandle and it was over 100 degrees for most of the day. We left Pampa at 9:30 this morning and it was already 97 degrees. Of course the temperature light on the trike came on after we were 60 miles into the middle of nowhere and buying gas from a pretty shady looking gas station.
We got into the motel around 2:30 PM (after another time change). I went through all the bike diagnostics and am almost certain about the sensor thing. I’m going to call the nearest Harley dealer (80 miles away) when they open in the morning. If they have the part, I’ll head down there for repairs. If not, we’ll enjoy the day in Tucumcari, exploring some cool stuff on Route 66.
Once I developed a plan of attack, I relaxed some and we went off to dinner at Del’s Cafe (“you can’t miss it, there is a large cow on top of the sign”). The food was good and the AC was working to perfection. We collected our first smashed penny of the trip. I’m hoping for a happier update and more pictures tomorrow.
