It happens on every trip we’ve ever been on. We get to the farthest point from home which is typically the point that the trip was focused on Once that point is achieved, it’s time to make the big U-turn and head the front wheel toward the Rambling Ranch. Today we reached that point and turned the front wheels back toward home. We are not really in a hurry to get there. That’s one of the aspects of this trip – no hurry.
When we came this way a long time ago we were heading to Virginia Beach. We don’t really have that kind of time now so when we hit the New River Gorge Bridge today, the river actually made a U-turn in the gorge. That was the signal that it was time for us to do the same. The distance between us and home started decreasing at the bridge.
Many people travel great distances to go white water rafting on the New River. That’s not something that interests either of us so we kept our distance. It was peaceful here at the New River Gorge Bridge National Park.

One of the things to realize is that there are very few two lane roads that will lead my fellow Ramblers to this area. You are almost forced to use the dreaded interstate highways. This being a holiday weekend, there was a lot of traffic, everyone was in more of a hurry than we were. We managed to refresh our 35 year old memories with a return to this bridge. It hasn’t changed much in the years since our first visit.
We followed the plan I had laid out on the GPS and arrived in good order at our night’s hotel. Dinner was at Bob Evan’s. The options for dinner are pretty limited in Charleston, West Virginia. We managed to show up in town just as the Annual Sternwheeler Regatta was getting ready to kick off. Big Wheel Keep on Turnin’.
I managed to turn on my 360 camera today and record some of West Virginia’s Toll Road. I’m not sure how the recording turned out. My travel laptop doesn’t have enough horsepower to play the vid. A new one is on the way. West Virginia chooses to assess motorcycles the same toll on it’s toll road as cars – $4.50 each. We hit 2 toll booths and I paid for both bikes each time. Mrs. Henry now owes me $9.00. I doubt that I’ll ever see that cash.
There was one unwelcome guest at the park today. I’ve included his or her picture for reference. That is not a stick on the ground. Maybe a big wheel will turn over on this guy.

Safe travels home.
