Leaving Las Vegas

We didn’t have much of a plan today. We were in Pahrump, Nevada and our hotel for tonight was in Cedar City, Utah. The fastest route took us exactly through Las Vegas. That fact alone made me doubt my thinking when I put this route together months ago. Vegas is never an easy city – it typically involves heavy traffic and some road construction. Every once in a while there is a car crash somewhere just to add some variety. Fortunately none of those were true today. Plus I wasn’t driving during that stretch so it was even less stressful than normal. The entire travel day was only 230 miles so there is not much to review in today’s blog.

I did include a couple of photos just to show that we really did go through Vegas. In one of they you can see the new home of the LV Raiders NFL team – the billion dollar Allegiant Stadium. The other one is my attempt at capturing the Vegas skyline.

I missed what would have been a great picture as two F-111 fighter jets flew over us. I did not have the camera ready and those things are lightning fast. This occurred just as we were driving past the LV Speedway. I should have been better prepared but once I saw the distinctive silhouettes of these super jets, I couldn’t grab my phone. Ugh.

We did have to stop for diesel along the way. The truck is still getting 23 MPG and diesel has been around $3.00 a gallon. (In Indiana, diesel was still well over $4 when we left.) I try to use truck stops for fuel. They do volume business so I picture the fuel as fresh and we get the added bonus of checking out the great souvenir’s they peddle. I found a real keeper today. An entire suit of armor available for purchase. That would take all the concerns away about finding a costume for Halloween. After looking at the prices, my Chief Financial Officer (Jana) said no way she would approve the expenditure. I wonder if they sell a lot of these.

We jumped back on I-15 for the rest of the trip up to Cedar City, checked in at the hotel, and pulled in to dinner at the All American Diner right down the street. Thank you Zoey for the great service.

I hope you stay tuned to this blog. We have several things on the agenda for tomorrow as we finally start making the U-turn back toward the Hoosier state.
