Crossing the “I”s

The last day of this trip was spent “crossing the I’s”. We started in Iowa, trekked across Illinois, and finally entered the Hoosier State – Indiana. The tracker says the last day was 472 miles. It seemed a lot farther than that. There was a light drizzle in Newton, Iowa – not enough to require the rubber suits. It looks like we would ride right out of it. Wrong! The problem was a low cloud cover which made everything damp including 4 riders and 4 motorcycles. It lasted for over 200 miles and created some of the lowest temperatures we experienced on this 2 week journey. Rain started 2 hours after I parked the bike back in my own garage.

I am thankful for my wife who kept everything managed at home. I am thankful for the guys that were on this trip with me and helped make it happen. I am thankful for my friends who read this crazy blog and sent positive support for our adventure. I am thankful for the staff at Kokomo Harley Davidson for their diligence in going over my bike in preparation for this trip. It may seem silly but I am thankful for my puppies who gave me the best “welcome home” ever.

Parked safely back in my messy garage

We made it back to Crawfordsville, Indiana (where this trip started) for the last gas stop of the day. Max was heading south from the there. The rest of us were headed east. We said our goodbye’s and were thankful for the experiences and safe journey. The tracker says we went 3,183 miles, the odometer shows 3538. I think the tracker lost some mileage somewhere. Max also recorded 3500+ miles.

Whatever the mileage is, I’m pretty sure it’s my last trip to Sturgis for quite a while.

I need to fill in some of the empty spaces on my hat pin map. Any suggestions?

At the end of the day, this patch only begins to tell the story of this adventure.

Wherever your ramblings take you, I hope you’re staying safe and enjoying the ride.

Henry is done rambling for a while.
